Ian is a highly skilled engineer with more than 20 years’ experience in major infrastructure and tunnelling projects throughout Australia and South-East Asia. His extensive experience includes working on numerous large-scale D&C tunnelling projects in both the tender and delivery phase. Ian is widely respected as an engaging, communicative manager with highly developed technical capabilities who develops practical alternative solutions to achieve best-for-project outcomes.
Ian has worked for some of Australia’s largest civil engineering contractors on major transport infrastructure projects involving road and rail tunnels. He has gained invaluable hands-on experience throughout his career, most recently as project manager for the station works on the Sydney Metro Martin Place Integrated Station Development. Prior to this, he was project manager for tunnel works on the NorthConnex project in Sydney. Here he led a large multi-disciplined management team and labour force to successfully and safely complete tunnel works, while also maintaining strong relationships with client representatives, stakeholders and community groups. Other major projects where Ian has performed site-based engineering and leadership roles include Sydney’s Eastern Distributor and M5 East, Brisbane’s Clem7 and the St Helena Tunnel on the Pacific Highway at Ewingsdale.
Complementing his delivery roles, Ian has also worked on numerous major project tenders, including Brisbane’s Airport Link and Legacy Way, Melbourne’s East-West Link, and Sydney’s Metro Northwest and WestConnex Stage 1B. His roles on these tenders covered the optioneering of alignments, the development and management of designs, construction methodologies, programmes and costings, temporary site locations and layouts, spoil management strategies, and the preparation of management plans and submission documents.
